Applying in Switzerland

Online applications and applications by email

Portal, email or direct upload: how to send your documents without duplicate applications, wrong files or avoidable form errors.

Key point

Use the channel specified by the employer. On an application portal, complete the fields and upload the required documents; for email, keep the message brief and attach clearly named PDFs.

Portal or email?

If the job ad directs you to a portal, use it. Email is appropriate when it is specifically requested, a direct contact is provided or a speculative application has no formal portal.

SwissCVPilot tip

Do not send an additional email application if you have already applied correctly through the required portal. Duplication does not strengthen your application.

Complete online forms carefully

Subject: Application for Product Manager – Anna Muster

Dear Ms Example,

Please find attached my application for the Product Manager position, including my CV, cover letter and relevant supporting documents.

Kind regards
Anna Muster

PDFs and file names

Anna_Muster_CV.pdf
Anna_Muster_CoverLetter.pdf

There is no universal Swiss file-size limit. Different portals have different technical restrictions, so follow the stated formats and limits.

Which language should you use?

As a general rule, match the language of the job advertisement unless the employer says otherwise. An internationally advertised role in English can naturally call for an English application.

After submission

Check for an acknowledgement and your spam folder. Keep a copy of the job ad, title and reference number because the ad may disappear while the hiring process continues.

Export clean documents first

SwissCVPilot creates your CV and cover letter as PDFs ready for portals or email.
