No work experience yet? What to put in an apprenticeship CV

You are not expected to have a career at 14, 15 or 16. Placements, small jobs, school projects and regular activities already show how you work and what interests you.

In short

No “real job” yet? That is exactly what employers expect from someone leaving school. Show what you have already tried and where you take responsibility.

Work placements count

A trial placement is your first experience of the professional world. Include the profession, employer, duration and a few concrete activities.

Holiday jobs and small responsibilities

A holiday job, regular babysitting, helping in a family business or another small job can show reliability, contact with people and responsibility. Do not turn it into a management role if it was not one.

School and projects

A school project can be relevant if it relates to the profession: a website, presentation, technical task, event or team project.

Clubs, sport and hobbies

Regular sport, music, scouts, youth groups or personal projects can show commitment and teamwork.

Honesty is stronger

A training company is not looking for a finished professional. It is looking for someone who wants to learn the job and fits the team.

SwissCVPilot tip

For every entry, ask: “What did I actually do?” A normal, concrete answer is usually enough.
